WHAT WE DO

A Strong Start

Improving Success through Gateway Course Design, Teaching, and Support

Gateway courses are central to a student’s academic trajectory. These introductory courses tend to have notably higher failure, withdrawal, and incomplete rates among first-generation, low-income, underrepresented, and adult learners – even when those students are performing well in their other courses.

The Collaborative is working with Kentucky’s institutions to improve outcomes by focusing on data-driven, evidence-based reforms and collaborating with specialists to improve gateway course completion.

The Kentucky Student Success Collaborative is an initiative of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education made possible by support from the James Graham Brown Foundation.
